Jane Evelyn Atwood

An American photographer who has lived and worked in Paris for a quarter century, Jane Evelyn Atwood is known for the social issues with which she deeply engaged during her investigations, some of which spanned several years. The blind, prostitutes, AIDS patients, women in prison around the world, victims of antipersonnel mines…she has documented all these situations with an attentiveness and compassion that reveal a profoundly humanist personality. The construction site for La Samaritaine, very far removed from the tense or tragic subjects that have formed the backbone of her work, became a sort of playground for her where she explored the possibilities of color with her ultra-precise framing.
