Hicham Benohoud

Hicham Benohoud is a former drawing teacher in Marrakech who had his students pose in the “classroom”, known for asking them to strike absurd or strange positions, which they accepted without blinking an eye. They became symbols of passiveness in the face of the authority that the series denounced. He no longer teaches, but has pursued a rich career. Eschewing color for black and white, he continues to patch together scenes that sometimes border on surrealism, posing deep questions on how the society of his country functions. On a never-ending quest, he challenges the meaning of signs, the illusions of what we believe we see, mirages and perceptions.
